New York Times, Story Portrait
An interactive experience that read the stories you had read in The New York Times and used AI to turn them into a one-of-a-kind generated portrait of you.
An extension of the Independent Journalism for an Independent Life campaign, Story Portrait made the case that what you read shapes who you are.
The experience pulled a subscriber's real reading history, then used AI to interpret those themes and generate a unique, abstract portrait from them. No two were alike, because no two reading lives are alike. The data of your curiosity, rendered as an image.
It was the first interactive project Droga5 built with The New York Times, and it landed: 2023 One Show awards for Data Visualization and Use of Technology, and a D&AD shortlist for user participation. A generative-AI idea that stayed personal, and stayed on brand.
